ATTENTION ANYONE WHO HAS EVER THOUGHT ABOUT RUNNING A HALF MARATHON:
DO IT.
I am a person who could barely run 3 miles 12 weeks ago but after two months of hell training I had the greatest day of my life yesterday. I doubted myself so many times while training but I ran the entire thing and got a time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 23 seconds. (roughly a 10 minute mile) Of course, there were plenty of people walking it too so don’t feel afraid to take a walk break if you need too.
It was the most fun I have ever had. 30,000 runners in the streets of DC and the course was gorgeous! Everyone was so energetic and supportive of each other I felt proud to be apart of them. The signs spectators made were hilarious and people were handing out high fives like it was their job! The greatest part was running through the finish line. No greater feeling in the world I swear. I got a finishers medal and a ton of free food to go along with the rush of endorphins. Bands played afterwards and everyone had an awesome time. If I wasn’t so sore I would do it again tomorrow!
I have already been looking at multiple more half marathons to do this year and who knows maybe next year I will start training for the full? Whatever I do I know that yesterday changed my life and races will be a huge lifestyle change for me. I encourage everyone to try a 5k or 10k or half (; I promise you it’s an indescribable feeling.
We are six days away from the half ladies and gentleman!
And I just had the worst run of my entire life. Seriously. It was straight hell. It was slow, painful, and I was a bit freaked out at first but then I remembered that I have been training non-stop for the past two months and I have ran extremely long distances I did not think were possible. So here’s to a weak of recovery making sure I am in tip top shape for Saturday.
Holy Guacamole, I am nervous.
